Where the Souss meets the sea

Agadir is the capital of the Souss and a heartland of Amazigh culture, where Tachelhit is heard in the markets and Yennayer, the Amazigh new year, is celebrated each January. Rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, the city wraps around a wide, sandy bay with a seafront promenade that runs for kilometres.

  • Agadir Oufella — the Saadian hilltop kasbah, watching over the port since the 16th century.
  • Souk El Had — a walled market of thousands of stalls, closed only on Mondays.
  • Taghazout — a fishing village of blue boats, now famous for its surf.
  • Paradise Valley — palm gorges in the Ida Ou Tanane foothills, on the Honey Road.
